Z AESAdvanced Encryption Standard - a symmetric encryption mechanism providing variable key length and allowing an efficient implementation specified as Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 197. source: ISO/IEC18028-4, 2005 (advanced encryption standard) A replacement of the DES algorithm that has variable block and key lengths of 128, 192, or 256 bits. The Rijandel algorithm won an international competition and in December 2001 was announced by NIST as Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 197. It became effective on May 26, 2002. source: Champlain, Auditing Information Systems:2003 Abbreviation for “Advanced Encryption Standard.” Block cipher used in symmetric key cryptography adopted by NIST in November 2001 as U.S. FIPS PUB 197 (or “FIPS 197”).
