Z halonA gas that rapidly removes oxygen from the air and is thus used in fire suppression systems. Halon dissipates quickly, leaves no residue, is nontoxic, and, because of its inert properties, does not damage equipment. Negative side effects include damage to the earth’s ozone layer of the atmosphere and harm to humans when exposed for prolonged periods. For these reasons, halon gas is heavily taxed in some cities and jurisdictions. source: Champlain, Auditing Information Systems:2003
